Project synopsisHattie Newman has earned an international reputation for her dynamic set design and papercraft. ‘Say It with Paper’ is the first compilation of her intricate paper projects. Having designed Hattie’s visual identity and website, the studio was commissioned to design and art direct the new book.
Working within the constraints of a co-edition title, a resourceful graphic system achieved a semblance of coloured papers and cut pages. Full bleed gridded backdrops and background tints further vary the pacing and support chapter navigation.
In line with Hattie’s broader visual identity, the assertive Dia in its Black cut, and the calligraphic Ogg typeface are used throughout. Across titling and body copy, integration of a hairline glyph set heightens contrast and informs fine linework of structural page elements and diagrammatic illustrations.
